Cat Clinic of Destin is dedicated to providing your feline companions the highest level of veterinary medicine and friendly, compassionate service. Dr. Dorothy Flynn established the practice in April of 2000. We are proud to be the only veterinary hospital in this area that caters to cats and their owners. Cat Clinic of Destin is a primary care feline-only veterinary hospital. We provide advanced diagnostic procedures with our digital radiology, ultrasound, and in-house state-of-the-art laboratory. We are a group of highly trained, experienced cat lovers devoted to giving our patients the best care possible. Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 05:30 pm

Anticipated schedule for this position:
Four days a week, 9 hours shifts, 35 – 40 hours

Pay range: ​​​​​​​
Veterinary Technicians, $16 – 18 p/hr, depending on experience
Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Assistant, $15 – $16 p/hr, depending on experience

Position Purpose
The Veterinary Technician assists the veterinarians and lead technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures. The ideal candidate has at least 1-2 years of experience working as a veterinary technician and can place catheters, intubate, monitor patients, perform dental cleanings and X-rays, and use the Avimark software system. Knowledge/experience using the Avimark software system is a plus! ​​​​

​​​​​The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures. The ideal candidate has at least one year of experience working as a Veterinary Assistant and can help technicians and DVMs in exam rooms and surgery and take on kennel tasks like cleaning, etc.

• Active Listening: Following the instructions of veterinarians and sometimes patient owners. Picking up the needs of veterinarians and teammates based on prior experiences and feedback.
• Organization Skills: Clear tracking of lab specimens, medications, patient instructions, workflow, and other job-related items while managing multiple patients and clients.
• Client Satisfaction: Ensuring all activities and interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights and providing client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the veterinarian’s discretion.
• Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies.
• Assist other team members in keeping the public areas of the practice clean and maintaining all medical equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy, and professionalism in all client interactions; exercise compassion and care in all patient interactions.
• Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members, including client discussions, patient plans, and concerns.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience preferred
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
• Practice OSHA safety techniques, including proper PPE
• Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
• Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS Office applications, etc.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety
